We were supposed to come up with a definition/working ideas of what how the Creative Process works for us. It worked best for me to write it in verse form. It is interesting that I used a lot of “re” words in my process, since subsequently we discussed Balkin’s model of the creative process, which built on Wallas’ prior model. Balkin adds the “re” factor–rethink, reconsider, replace, refine, redo, reaffirm, reprocess, rewrite, and reconceptualize. (in The Creative Arts: A Process Approach for Teachers and Children, 1997) While my “re” words are not the same words that Balkin uses, there is definite overlap. I feel in any creative endeavour, there is a continual revision, and a striving for that elusive feeling of rightness. And that is definitely an elusive feeling more often than not. Even on this fairly simple blog entry, I have revised more times than written. A definite reason for this blog is that I make the move from keeping my writing hidden and take a chance in making it semi-public in that I might come to terms that “almost right” and “not-quite right” might also sometimes be okay. In the meantime, I will think, dream, do and repeat.
